We are back again with the Cross Foxes newsletter, as summer is just around the corner we are excited for an adventure packed summer season.
The place is buzzing now and every Friday and Saturday is beginning to get booked by Groups who see the attraction of getting together and having fun. Of course you earn that fun first by walking, scrambling, biking and immersing yourself in ice cold water.
That’s boss Chris in the water. We think he does it because he looked thinner for a minute or two after he gets out… we think he’s the Wim Hoff’ s distant cousin.
Recently Raw Adventures joined us with a group of very tough cookies practising the second stage of the Dragons Back Race tackling many tough summits and the seriously rugged terrain over the Moelwynion and Rhinogydd hills.
"Team RAW enjoyed a cracking weekend full of energy, expert mountain skills and DBR race experience input, teamwork, strong running and support of each other, social eating and sharing stories over a local pint or three in the sun"
We had excellent feedback from owners Kate and Ross and will be drawing up an action plant to put a number of them in place for future groups very soon.
We recently ventured out on an exciting expedition with Connaire Cann from Wheel Good Times who holds guided treks and bike routes. The trek was over Moelwyn Mawr and adjoining peaks. Awesome scenery, great history, caves and mines, cold water plunge, sheltered picnic and tea and cake.
A night time return to Blaenau in the dark two weeks before that, trembling torches in our hands.. Really exciting, particularly the foray into the old slate mine and hearing the tales of the workers back then and their truly unimaginably hard lives.
We have also done Moelwyn Mawr on a different day out. This was again steeped in taking in the history but the stunning valley vistas stole the day when the sun came out.
The day after this latest walk, some hardy regulars then took on the Snowdon circuit, one of the rides in the Eryri 360 series run by Connaire Cann. This great series involves a bundle of 7 unique mixed terrain adventure cycle loops showcasing some of the best non technical trails found in the Snowdonia National Park.
Old guy Chris W is trying to get them all done this year to get his own copy of Connaire's hand drawn map. The series can be downloaded for
your own use or you can join the Cross Groups when we go out.
A group of walkers enjoyed The Cross for a more relaxed weekend, venturing out to Coed-y-Brenin and taking some fantastic photos of the range of scenery on the 4.5 mile walk. Perhaps they will come back and capture some more great shots of Snowdonia, there's plenty of photo-ready scenery here.
We just had to share this beautiful photo taken of the river in Coed-y-Brenin. It almost looks like a painting!
